Therapy on Long Island for Deep Emotional Healing

Welcome to Point North Psychological Services, PLLC

Suffering is part of being human. Whether shaped by trauma, anxiety, grief, or emotional disconnection, our pain reflects what matters most. It doesn’t mean something is wrong with you—it means you’re carrying something that deserves care and attention.

At Point North, we provide compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for individuals across Suffolk County, including Northport, Commack, Smithtown, Dix Hills, Huntington, Greenlawn, and Kings Park, as well as surrounding Long Island communities. Our practice offers a supportive space for honest reflection, deep emotional work, and intentional personal growth.

We don’t offer quick fixes. Instead, we work with you to understand what’s been carried, what can be released, and what you want to build next.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone else—it’s about becoming more fully yourself, with clarity, courage, and care.

Frequently Asked Questions

We are here to provide you with clarity and guidance on common concerns. Explore our FAQ section to find answers to crucial questions regarding our services and approach.
Is this therapist the right fit for me?

Do you feel at ease with your therapist?

Can you speak openly and honestly during sessions?

Do you feel they truly understand what you're going through?

Finding the right therapeutic match can make a big difference in your progress. It's often helpful to attend two to three sessions before deciding whether it’s a good fit. However, if it’s immediately clear that the connection isn’t there, it’s perfectly okay—and often best—to explore other options.

How long are sessions?

Sessions vary based on the service provided.

Individual psychotherapy sessions are typically 45 minutes, while couples therapy sessions are 60 minutes.

Regarding psychological/neuropsychological assessment, sessions are dependent on the referral question/presenting problem. Typically, these evaluation require 2-3 sessions lasting approximately 2-3 hours each.

How often do I come for therapy?

Most patients begin with weekly sessions, which helps build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic relationship. As you make progress and develop new skills, sessions may become less frequent—such as biweekly or monthly—based on your needs and goals. This can be discussed and adjusted collaboratively over time.

What is neuropsychological assessment?

A neuropsychological or psychological assessment is a way to better understand how you think, learn, and process information. It usually includes interviews, questionnaires, and different types of tests that look at things like memory, attention, problem-solving, emotions, and behavior.

These assessments can help figure out why certain challenges are happening and are often used to diagnose conditions like ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and more. The results can help guide treatment, school supports, or other helpful services.

How do I know if I need couples therapy?

Couples therapy isn’t just for relationships in crisis—it can be helpful anytime your connection feels strained. If you're arguing frequently—even about small things—or having trouble communicating, it may be a sign that something deeper needs attention. Therapy can also be a good step if your relationship doesn’t feel as supportive, caring, or fulfilling as it once did. Seeking help early can strengthen your relationship and prevent issues from growing over time.
